User Ratings and Reviews
4 Stars Golf Fit Worked for Me
When I took up golf at age 50 I was fit and never imagined that golf would be so demanding physically. I have been playing and taking lessons for 2.5 years and would not be able to swing a club without a program that focuses on golf-specific strength and flexibility exercises. I have read many books that claim to accomplish this but I have stuck with Golf Fit (2 yrs) because it is very easy to follow and the entire program can be done at home with free weights. The program also works! When I started it I had elbow tendonitis so severe that I couldn’t grip a pencil and such sore intercostal muscles that I couldn’t take a deep breath! Now I have only minor intermittent aches and pains.
The book is well illustrated, the descriptions are clear, and the number of exercises in each section is small enough to fit into a busy life style.
1 Star Pretty Weak for THE ONLY guide I will ever need
Could have been much better, weak on the resistance exercise and which muscles for my swing I will work on. Just about any of the other books I perused were better than this.
4 Stars Very good for stretching and strengthening
I’m athletic, but with a bad back, so I need excercises that keep me in shape, but with a minimum of stress. My local pro doesn’t know the book, doubted its helpfulness: yeah, like they don’t want to approve of something they haven’t a ‘vested interest’ in. I tried it, and find that on a day-in, day-out basis, I can stick with it (six months and going strong) and it gives me all-around flexibility and maintains my fitness. Okay, it’s not going to lower my handicap, but I’ve got other programs for that! Good format, easy to follow, and clear photo-demonstrations.
2 Stars Not much substance for the cover hype
I showed this to the trainers at my athletic club, and while they admited they didn’t know much about golf, they were doubtful these exercises or programs would make much of a difference. I tried the programs for 3 weeks, no difference, so I went back to my regular program of exercise. When will somebody write a really serious book about this for us serious golfers? This isn’t it.
